If you're looking for a laptop for graphic design work or video editing, there are a number of important criteria you should consider. The type of laptop you choose will to some extent depend on the type of work you need to do but also where you need to work and how often you need to use a laptop versus say a PC based in the office. Design and video editing work typically requires the following core specs: fast processors, dedicated graphics, sufficient RAM and an SSD for storage. A high end laptop, mobile workstation or an ultraportable with the right features may fit the bill.

Which laptop is best for graphic design and video editing?

When considering buying a new laptop for video editing or graphic design, there are four key elements to focus on to ensure the best fit for your needs and professional tasks.
Resolution: It is recommended to choose a laptop with a minimum resolution of 1080p (FHD) for video editing. Opting for a laptop with 4K (UHD) resolution would be even better, as lower resolutions compromise the professional quality of your work.

Processor: For graphic design and video editing, look for a laptop with a powerful processor that can handle your tasks without lags or other issues. Aim for at least a Core i5 processor, but a more advanced option is preferable, especially for larger projects.

Graphics card: The graphics card, or GPU, is crucial for video editing and graphic design. Some laptops have integrated GPUs within the processor, especially in entry-level models. However, a dedicated GPU with its own memory will provide better visuals and relieve some strain from the processor, maximizing performance.

RAM: The amount of RAM in your laptop is important for video editing and graphic design. More RAM means faster processing, potentially improving overall laptop performance. Starting with 8GB of RAM is recommended, but for 4K work, it's advisable to consider laptops with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of RAM.
