Before buying a 144 Hz monitor, there are a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, make sure your graphics card can support a high refresh rate. Secondly, consider the screen size and resolution - a higher resolution will require more powerful hardware to run smoothly at high refresh rates. Finally, think about what other related features are important to you such as low input lag, response time, adaptive sync technology, and HDR support. A 144 Hz monitor will offer smoother motion clarity than a mainstream 60 Hz display but unless the other related specs such as the screen’s response time are up to scratch, you could see other performance related issues such as screen tearing, ghosting or motion blurs.

It’s also worth considering picture quality before you make a purchase. Many of the budget 144 Hz monitors use TN panels or low quality VA panels which aren’t as good at colour reproduction as other monitors. Colours can often appear washed out and faded. More expensive models handle this better but if you’re shopping on a limited budget, you need to decide what’s more important, visual quality or performance.
