Optical drives have mostly been replaced by much smaller storage components such as USB drives or flash cards that can store large amounts of data while taking up a fraction of the space. Historically, most laptops, PCs and many servers shipped with an optical drive of some variety whether that was a read only, read/write CD drive or a DVD drive. If you still require an optical drive for your computer or server, we stock a small range of options and are often able to source stock on request via our network of hardware suppliers.

External optical drives allow your computer to read and write data stored on discs. They typically connect to your computer via USB or FireWire ports and are available in several types, including CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray. CDs can store up to 700MB of data while DVDs can hold up to 8GB. Blu-Ray disks have the highest storage capacity of 25GB and are often used for storing high definition videos. With an external optical drive connected to your computer, you can watch movies, listen to music, backup files and more without having to worry about limited internal storage space.
